Wedding Do’s & Dont’s’

Planning a wedding is a lot of work, even if you’ve hired a wedding planner and an event coordinator there’s still a lot for the bride and groom to decide. With such a large amount of tasks to complete it’s more than likely that mistakes can be made. Here is a brief, but informative list of the biggest Dos and Don’ts of planning a wedding.

First we will start with the DONT’s’

DON’T get overwhelmed

Friends and family will give you many suggestions on what they like and what they think you should go with for many things like venues, colors, themes, food etc. Take their ideas in and then make your own. It’s YOUR day so YOU have to create it the way you want it.

DON’T Stress when things go wrong

Be prepared for things to go wrong. Something always goes wrong! So remember that whatever it is or was, you would look back on it and laugh. So please just enjoy your day even if some things didn’t go as planned.

DON’T wait to choose a venue

Whether you are looking into indoor or outdoor wedding venues it is very important to put down a deposit and book that before anything else. All the other wedding planning will solely rely on having a wedding venue chosen for example for wedding invitations, wedding decor, and all your wedding theme ideas etc. Please before it’s too late to book the spot you have dreamed about, BOOK IT!

DON’T Starve

Of course you are going to be busy with Guests, Photo session, Hair & Make-up etc. But don’t forget to eat when you get a chance because champagne on an empty stomach is not a good idea. So try and pack some snacks or have someone provide some for you throughout the day.

DON’T Neglect to rehearse… everything!

A great way to settle nerves and to ensure there are no unwanted surprises on your big day is to go through your wedding day routine in advance. Visit your venues in advance and familiarise yourself with them and envision the day of decor if possible. Try on your dress and walk around in it, perhaps not down the street but in the privacy of your home. Last but not least do a hair and make-up trial and prepare yourself mentally for what will be one of the biggest days of your life!!

Now we will start on the DO’s

DO plan according to the weather

Each couple has different seasonal weddings in mind. But sometimes things don’t go as planned. You have to be prepared for the worst and this is one of those things you have no control over. Always have alternate options throughout the day because it could rain, get cold, snow, or get really hot. So make sure you have these plans already set up so you don’t have to worry about them on your wedding day!

DO include your significant other in the planning

Including your fiancé would be a great second helping hand to help you with everything from planning to food tasting etc. That way you don’t have all the stress of planning and organizing everything by yourself. Go to meetings and consultations together so that you are both on the same page with everything until you both say I DO.

DO give your guests enough time to get to your wedding

When planning an out of the city wedding please make sure you give your guest time to plan ahead. Especially when they have other commitments going on in their life. Try to aim for at least a good 3-5 months in advance for sending out invitations.

DO consider having a wedding coordinator or wedding planner

The day of the wedding has lot of emotions surging through your body, having a professional hired will help you to take the stress, workload off your shoulders to just make the day goes efficiently, and perfect. The wedding planner takes the stress away from your immediate family members and significant other as well. This is a special point in your life and you don’t want to be worried all day if the vendors showed up, or if the decorations are set up properly etc. Wedding planners are here to make sure you could enjoy every minute of your big day.

DO make a Pinterest board

Everyone would like to see what you are envisioning. Take some time and gather different photos of your ideas that you have so that in the future it would be easier for you or planners to move forward.

DO enjoy every minute of your day

The day will fly by quicker than what you expect so don’t forget to stay in the moment and live in every minute. There won’t be many occasions where you have all of your loved ones together to celebrate the same one. Enjoy the moment while it lasts as the day will pass by quickly.
